Quarters for Conservation Grant

Happy Hollow is excited to announce our redesigned Quarters for Conservation grant! Conservation organizations may now apply for funding for field research and/or conservation projects based outside the U.S. Awards range from $5,000 to $25,000. Grantees for the 2024 cycle will be notified by July 31. Applications for the 2025 grant cycle will be open in early February

Electronic Device Recycling

Happy Hollow now has drop-off sites for recycling electronic devices! Did you know that recycling helps reduce landfill waste and minimizes the need for materials like coltan, which threatens wildlife in Africa?

Species Survival Plans

Happy Hollow’s AZA-accredited zoo is home to species that are threatened or critically endangered in the wild. By participating in the Species Survival Plan, Happy Hollow cooperates with other institutions to advance scientifically controlled and managed breeding, and raise public awareness of wildlife conservation issues. One important goal of the Species Survival Plan is reintroducing captive- bred wildlife into restored or secure habitat as appropriate and necessary. Learn more about SSP.

Backyard Habitat

The Backyard Habitat is the perfect place to sit under a tree and relax. This pollinator garden is designed to provide habitat for a variety of native bees, butterflies, birds and other wildlife found right in our backyard. This area is also available for private rentals such as company picnics, evening mixers and weddings. Click the link to learn more about renting this space.

Gorilla Honey

In partnership with Willow Glen Honey, sales of honey harvested from Happy Hollow’s apiary support rangers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Virunga National Park, home of the world's last remaining mountain gorillas. This delicious honey can be purchased at the Happy Hollow Explore & More Store, Picnic Basket, and Three Sisters in Willow Glen.

LEED Gold certified

In 2010 Happy Hollow became the first amusement park and zoo to earn LEED Gold Certification, thanks to our green roofs, hay bale building construction, water recapture at the bioswale, porous pavement and much more. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Picnic Basket focuses on quality, quick-service and environmentally friendly choices. All Happy Hollow food options are locally and sustainably sourced and antibiotic-free. Happy Hollow also partners with Seafood Watch and ensures that all fish (fed to people or animals) is sustainably sourced. Double-H Catering delivers premier environmentally friendly catering options to suit the style and theme of your event.
