Progress for Pollinators

Pollinators at Happy Hollow

As a Certified Wildlife Habitat and Certified Monarch Waystation, Happy Hollow supports pollinators in multiple ways.  There are pollinator habitats throughout the Park & Zoo, including the Backyard Habitat demonstration garden. Happy Hollow  also hosts beekeeping workshops, sells honey from the apiary and raises funds for pollinators through our Quarters for Conservation program.

Progress for Pollinators Grant

Happy Hollow Park & Zoo and the Happy Hollow Foundation’s Progress for Pollinators grant program seeks community members who are dedicated to creating pollinator-friendly habitats.

Grant guidelines

  • Organizations may receive up to $2,500 per project. Organizations can apply for more than one project, but preference will be given to those who have not already received a grant within the past year.
  • To be eligible, applicants must have space for planting that is accessible to the public, a minimum of 100 square feet in area and is located within Santa Clara County.
  • 501 (c) non-profit organizations, schools, nature centers, and local or state-run organizations committed to community based conservation are encouraged to apply.
  • Project design should incorporate the themes of conservation, creativity, and fun.
  • Project must contain a teaching component, with a signage installation or personal interpretation, that educates the community about native pollinators and native plants.
  • Projects must also align with the City of San José and Santa Clara County sustainable landscaping guidelines.
  • Organizers must send a written update and photos six months after beginning the project and again within 30 days of completing the project. The Happy Hollow conservation team will then schedule a site visit to present an official Progress for Pollinator sign to be placed in the garden.
