Grant Guidelines & Application

Applications for the 2024 grant cycle will open from Wednesday, Feb. 1 through Sunday, March 31.

Projects must be based outside the United States.

Awards are announced by July 31.

 

Award Amounts:

Grants may be requested and awarded in any amount; however, most awards granted are expected to be in the range of $5,000 to $25,000. 

To be considered for funding, PROJECTS MUST INCORPERATE AT LEAST THREE KEY FOCUS AREAS:
The selection committee will also consider:
  • Broadness of  impact – range, number of animals and people affected
  • Ability to directly interact with staff/spokespeople of the organization
  • Marketability and ability to promote efforts online
Submission Guidelines:
  • The principal agent must be associated with a recognized institution, including AZA accredited establishments or non-profit organizations.
  • Projects must be based outside the U.S.
  • Applications for exhibit development and marketing materials for zoos will not be considered. 
  • All proposals must be submitted in English.
  • All parts of the application must be completed in order for the application to be considered. 
  • If submitting the application electronically, please submit photos in jpg format and attachments in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) or Adobe (PDF) format. 
  • If submitting the application by mail, submit two printed copies of all materials. Photos and support material may also be submitted on one flash memory drive. 
  • All application materials must be submitted together, whether online or by mail.
  • Mailed applications must be received by April 3. If possible, please send an email to [email protected] to let us know that your application is on the way.
Conditions of acceptance include
  • Information gained from the project must be made available to the public. 
  • Happy Hollow Park & Zoo must receive a mid-year report (no later than six months after funds are received), as well as a summary report by July 1 the following year. This will include a summary of project objectives or methods used, conclusions, recommendations, and a statement of expenses. This summary will also include video, photos, or other media that Happy Hollow may use to highlight its conservation efforts via electronic and printed media. 
  • Happy Hollow Park & Zoo will be acknowledged as a sponsor in any digital or printed materials produced, resulting from the funded project. 
  • All research involving live animals must adhere to regulations listed under the USDA Animal Welfare Act, and any appropriate sections of professional ethics or mandatory standards of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
