It’s Kind of a Pig Deal! Happy Hollow Park & Zoo Welcomes Endangered Chacoan Peccaries

Happy Hollow Park & Zoo is excited to welcome four male Chacoan peccaries, an endangered pig-like species, to the zoo family. The peccaries have moved into a newly expanded habitat, partly funded by Happy Hollow Foundation. Chacoan peccaries are part of an Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan, which coordinates the placement of individual members of the species at zoos and sanctuaries nationwide.

Don’t Worry, Be Capy! Happy Hollow Park & Zoo Welcomes New Capybaras

Happy Hollow Park & Zoo is excited to welcome two young female capybaras – the largest living rodents in the world. The pair of sisters were born at Abilene Zoo in Abeline, Texas on October 1, 2021, and were transferred to Happy Hollow earlier this month on the recommendation of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Capybara Species Survival Plan.

An Update on Jaguars Kianto and Sophia

November 5, 2021

We are sad to share that on Wednesday, Nov. 3, the Happy Hollow animal care team made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize Kianto the Jaguar. He was 15 ½ years old and will be remembered by the Happy Hollow community as a charismatic ambassador for his species. On Thursday, Nov. 4, Sophia the Jaguar received a follow-up exam and underwent a successful surgery to treat a pyometra (infection in the uterus).
