Meet the New Managers

In 2018, Happy Hollow Park & Zoo welcomed a new new leadership team. Check out who’s running things behind-the-scenes at Happy Hollow.

Kevin Hertell, Zoo Manager

Kevin began his career in animal welfare related work over 35 years ago as an Animal Control Officer. He is an experienced zoo manager, and has also lead a number of animal rescue facilities and sanctuaries throughout his career. He has a Master’s of Science in Biology, specializing in Animal Behavior, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Wildlife Conservation and Management.

 

Shannon Heimer, General Manager

Shannon Heimer has over two decades of experience working in environmental education and the outdoor recreation industry. Her passions include animals, conservation and nature play. Shannon served as an Education Manager at Happy Hollow for over thirteen years and was Assistant General Manager between 2013 and 2015. Shannon’s many years of experience at Happy Hollow have resulted in the implementation of many successful programs that provide valuable resources to the community, and she is now directing all programming and operations for the Park and Zoo. Shannon holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Legal Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Outside of work, Shannon enjoys spending time outdoors with her family.
