Join the party at Senior Safari

Sunshine spilled over the Bent Bridge as giddy adults gathered in the entry plaza, waiting for the clock to strike 9. They were eager for the gates to swing open for Senior Safari at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo, when adults 50-and-up enjoy a morning of fun activities and early entrance to the park. Guests arriving from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. gain free entry and parking to Happy Hollow, and they are welcome to stay all day! This monthly event runs from May through October. 

Many guests at the June event started their morning by visiting the Picnic Basket to purchase a yummy breakfast. Others headed right for one of the featured activities, Laughter Yoga! This class taught participants to connect to their bodies through exercise, breathing and, of course, giggles. Just up the path, the Keep-Around Carousel delighted guests as they climbed aboard mythical animals and endangered species. In the Five Point Forest, friends competed to see who could hula hoop the longest. These activities encouraged visitors to laugh, play and feel like a kid again.

And of course it wouldn’t be a visit to Happy Hollow without some animal fun. Senior Safari guests were delighted to learn about the important role our heritage chickens play in the Happy Hollow ecosystem. These chickens produce eggs that are then used as food and enrichment for the zoo animals. Guests also got up close and personal with Waffles the Flemish Giant Rabbit! Throughout Senior Safari, docent-led tours introduced guests to the many animals that call Happy Hollow home. Senior Safari reminds us that it is important for people of all ages to connect with nature through education and play.
